What is an Alfajor?

An Alfajor (pronounced al-fah-hor) is Argentina’s most beloved sweet treat – a deliciously soft, shortbread cookie sandwich, generally filled with mouth-watering dulce de leche, covered in chocolate. Each bite feels like a little taste of home and celebration.

Every single KÓNKEH pastry is handcrafted with love in Wichita, Kansas.

Dulce De Leche is a smooth, golden caramel spread made by slowly cooking milk and sugar – rich, velvety, and impossible to resist. It’s the heart of a classic KÓNKEH alfajor.

Caramel is made from cooking down granulated sugar, simply by itself or with a splash of water, and it’s generally cooked for a much shorter time.

Dulce de Leche is made from slowly cooking milk and sugar together. The process of cooking it and stirring the mix for hours takes advantage of the Maillard reaction, producing a caramelized end product.

In short, think: Caramel = Caramelized Sugar  /  Dulce De Leche = Caramelized Milk

Our Alfajores are best enjoyed fresh and stored in a cool, dry place. They don’t require refrigeration, but we recommend enjoying them within 4 weeks for the perfect texture and flavor.

Our Gluten-Sensitive alfajores are crafted without any gluten ingredients — but since they are made in a shared kitchen that also handles gluten, we cannot promise zero cross-contamination. If you have celiac disease or a severe allergy, please order with that in mind.

While only the Peanut-Ganache flavor contains peanuts, all KÓNKEH pastries are crafted in a kitchen that handles allergen ingredients, such as, peanuts, milk, eggs, tree nuts, soybeans, and sesame.

What flavors do you have?

Yes! While the classic Argentine version is filled with Dulce De Leche, KÓNKEH also offers flavors inspired by tradition and creativity – from chocolate-dipped alfajores to limited seasonal favorites.

In Argentina, Alfajores are more than a treat – they’re a daily ritual shared with friends, family and laughter. Every region has its own twist, but all share the same spirit: comfort, connection, and craftmanship.

Anytime your heart calls for something sweet! In Argentina, alfajores are shared with morning coffee, afternoon mate, or as dessert after dinner, (pro tip: try it with a glass of Malbec wine for an exquisite and velvety pairing). At KÓNKEH, we believe our pastries make every moment a little more special.

KÓNKEH means “Sweet” in the Tehuelche language, one of the native Chonan Languages of Patagonia. Its speakers, the Tehuelche people were nomadic hunters who occupied territory in present-day province of Santa Cruz, Argentina.
